Warren, PA— The Warren County Democratic Committee hosted Senator Bob Casey Jr. at a breakfast event at the Hampton Inn in North Warren this past Wednesday. The event was well attended with almost 40 citizens enjoying donuts and coffee and the opportunity to listen to and speak with the United States Senator who is currently running for re-election in 2018.
Senator Casey began the event with a 20-minute speech where he outlined his concerns over healthcare, rural broadband initiatives, and the need to address stagnant wages. “There are over twenty million people today that are covered due to the Affordable Care Act,” said Casey, “I will fight for them and for those who have pre-existing conditions who wouldn’t have insurance if the Affordable Care Act is repealed.”
On rural broadband, Senator Casey stated, “To support our local businesses and grow our rural economies we need to expand high-speed internet coverage.” Has also voiced his support for organized labor and their ability to bargain collectively for better wages. “I am concerned about the views of some on Capitol Hill that want to attack workers’ rights and their ability to advocate for better wages collectively.”
The citizens in attendance were able to speak individually for the next hour with the Senator. They talked about a variety of topics including universal healthcare, environmental issues, and the economy.
“We were so honored to have the Senator in the County,” said Warren County Democratic Party Chairman Aaron Stearns, “The crowd was very engaged and lively and the discussion was so positive. We’re excited about the fall election and it’s energizing to have a statewide official like Senator Casey in town speaking to the citizenry.”
Karen Black, a local resident at the end, “I was so glad I got a chance to meet with him and talk with him today. This was very informative.”
